1) Le mangoustan

Ces beaux fruits sont originaires des pays d’Asie du Sud-Est, les mangoustans sont aussi cultivés en Amérique du Sud, notamment en Colombie. Ce petit fruit violet possède une peau épaisse très amère qu’on appelle péricarpe, la peau renferme une chair blanche divisée en quelques parties. La couche blanche est comestible, elle a un goût acide et sucré. Les mangoustans, riches en antioxydants, sont également consommés pour leurs propriétés curatives.

2) Le fruit du palmier de Palmyre

Fruit du palmier de palmyre

Ces fruits en forme ovale sont issus du palmier de Palmyre et contiennent trois noyaux gélatineux. Ce noyau gélatineux constitue un excellent dessert, baptisé « nungu » en tamil, en compagnie du sirop de sucre de palme ou bien un jus de coco. En Thaïlande, les noyaux de ce fruit sont servis partout dans les restaurants. Miam !

3) Le fruit de jacquier

Le fruit du jacquier est un fruit énorme qui peut peser plusieurs kilos, le fruit provient d’un arbre appartenant à la même famille que les mûriers. Le fruit de jacquier peut être préparé en plat salé. À la Réunion, il est cuit avec du lard fumé pour la fameuse recette du ti’jaque boucané. Les graines sont toxiques si vous les consommez crues, il faut les bouillir ou les griller. Elles font partie de plats traditionnels (rougails). Vous pouvez trouver ce fruit exquis dans certains magasins qui vendent des produits exotiques !

Le nono, l’appellation donnée à l’arbre et aux fruits en tahitien, a un goût assez amer. Selon un petit groupe de chercheurs américains, le fruit aiderait à retarder le vieillissement de la peau, les inflammations arthritiques voire même protéger l’organisme contre des maladies comme le cancer.
